NJHS Requirements
Dear Parents
and NJHS Students,
The National
Junior Honor Society is a wonderful organization to which your child
belongs. As NJHS members, students make a firm commitment when they join, to
give of their time and talents to help make our world a better place.
As advisor of
the NJHS, I set new goals and expectations for every student each year. Your
child is a member because he or she has met the criteria set by the Honor
Society. Many parents think of the NJHS as an elite organization of
academically talented students, but academics are only a part of the whole
picture. Not only must students maintain a grade point average of 3.4, but
they must continually demonstrate qualities of Service, Leadership,
Character and Citizenship. The NJHS is a commitment. It is work. Our
students are still young and at times will balk at the tasks being asked of
them. This is where I ask all parents to also make a commitment. Insist that
your son or daughter fulfills his or her obligations. Our organization is
only as good as the students and parents commitment to it.
The NJHS is
about service to the community. It is a vehicle which brings the talent of
our young people to those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Their
talent and time are used in a variety of ways. Our jobs vary greatly.
Students work at St. Aloysius feeding the poor. They take turns working at
the CAI building serving spaghetti dinners to the elderly and occasionally
visit Lourdes Nursing Home. The NJHS buys Toys for Tots at Christmas. We
have coat drives and students work at school functions like Open House and
Sixth Grade Orientation.
I look
forward to working again next year with the NJHS. It is my hope that every
student will do their best to make our organization strong and meaningful. I
ask that you read, sign and return this letter to me by Monday. Your support
is greatly appreciated.
