OUR LADY OF THE LAKES HIGH SCHOOL

CHRISTIAN SERVICE REQUIREMENTS

2006-2007

Our Lady of the Lakes High School promotes Catholic values, committed faith, academic excellence, personal discipline and community responsibility.”  (Mission Statement)

One concrete way the students develop personal discipline as well as community responsibility is through Christian Service.

Jesus Christ expressed the call to service by washing the feet of his disciples. (John 13:1-17) Jesus says, “Go and do the same.”

Through the promotion of Christian Service, the department aims toward creating a sense of community by which students come to see themselves as Church.  Christian Service gives the students the opportunity to use their time and talents in loving service without any form of compensation.

Each OLL High School Student is required to complete a minimum of eighty hours of Christian Service prior to graduation.  (Eighty hours is required in order to graduate.)  Beginning in 2006-2007 school year, a minimum of twenty hours must be completed in each academic year.  The final day to submit hours will be April 3rd 2007. In this way, students will not be allowed to accumulate unfinished service hours into the next academic year.   Students who have not finished their annual hours will be assigned a summer service project to complete these hours.  Some service projects may involve more than twenty hours of commitment in any given school year.  However, service hours completed over the required twenty annual hours may be applied to the next academic year.  In addition to the eighty hours of service, each service project is to include a Student Evaluation Form and a Supervisor Evaluation Form.  NOTE:  All Supervisor Evaluation Forms must accurately indicate the dates of service completed.  Indicating only the total number of hours will no longer be sufficient.  Prior to graduation a Reflection Paper must be submitted.  The format will be given to each student.

(These requirements are subject to revision.)

Each semester, all OLL students will be interviewed during a regularly scheduled religion class in order to clarify these requirements and/or to check each student’s progress.  It is the Christian Service Coordinator’s (your religious studies teacher) responsibility to meet with each of his/her students each semester.

Beginning in 2006, the Christian Service Coordinator will also provide each of their students with a Christian Service packet during the first semester of each academic year.

These requirements are subject to revision at the discretion of the Religious Studies Department, in consultation with the administration.
